Clients told the Insights Group that retaining talent was one of the top ten problems facing businesses.  So how does the Insights Discovery four colour model help to address this problem? Let’s look at some of the factors that contribute to retention.

Insights Discovery® uses a four colour model, comprised of Cool Blue, Fiery Red, Earth Green and Sunshine Yellow energies, to describe people’s strengths, styles and team contributions. The unique combination of these helps to determine why we each think and behave the way we do.

It is important that employees are able to do their job well. An individual for whom Cool Blue energy is dominant may be best equipped to ensure that staff have access to the resources and knowledge of company processes and procedures that they need in order to perform well in their role. In contrast to this, individuals that lead with Sunshine Yellow energy make a positive impact on employee engagement by inspiring people about the organisation that they are part of and the unique difference they can make.

Many employees want the opportunity for career advancement. A manager who with a preference for Fiery Red energy may be good at rewarding success and encouraging employees to break new ground. They may, however, be unaware of the impact that high demands may have on junior staff members.

Stress is a major factor in both staff retention and absenteeism. An individual that leads with Earth Green energy understands the importance of valuing people and investing time in listening to them. They are able to engage with others on an emotional level and are generally good at ensuring providing sensitive feedback.

The four colour energies all contribute vital, yet different viewpoints. Are you missing any of them in your team?

While you may lead with one specific colour energy, you do possess all four and it is possible to dial up these other energies to adapt to different situations. Looking at the example of stress above, a team may have a number of members that lead with Earth Green energy, but none that lead with Cool Blue energy. Here, it is necessary for someone to push up their Cool Blue energy to ensure that, as well as staff concerns being listened to, resources are then correctly deployed to help resolve issues so that everyone has what they need in order to do their job effectively.

We can help you assess your, and your team members’, strengths, styles and team contributions to help find practical ways to address any deficits and make the most of the talent you have working for you.
